The Guest Bedroom

01 31 20

This was the first of many changes we want to make to our house. With our house being 100 years old, it has it’s quirks, but it has solid bones. Most of the things we want to change are cosmetic, a few are a little more invasive.

Here is the before…

As you can tell by the wall, I had a hard time making a decision about paint color. What else is new?

I used this room as a boutique for a couple years and it worked well for that. Once I converted it back to a guest room though, it was a hodge-podge of colors and patterns. It drove me mad.

The biggest change we made was probably the bed. I went back and forth about whether or not to just buy a new bed frame. The one we have is almost 12 years old and dated. Skylar worked up some plans to change the bed and we decided to go that route.

We cut the curved top and the posts down flat. We said farewell to the seashell.
We screwed in a 2×6 across the top and nailed in a piece of moulding across the front to cover the gap. We sanded the whole thing to prep for paint.
We used EasyCare satin finish paint in the color Perfect Blend for the bed.
We also cut the posts off at the end of the bedframe, and screwed on a 2×6 across the top. The rug is from Home Goods. Such a great find! It’s wool, and it’s what inspired this whole change.
For the walls, I decided to go with a dark navy behind the bed and desk, and a white on the other walls.
Bedding – Ralph Lauren down duvet
Duvet Cover and pillows from Home Goods
Dark blue throw from Walmart
Woven throw from Home Goods
Wreath is from Pier 1
Full length mirror is from Home Goods
I still have a couple things I want to change on this side of the room. I plan to do a gallery wall and swap out the desk chair for a nice camel colored leather chair.
Papasan Chair is from Pier 1
Desk I got at a thrift store
The framed poster I got in Germany, frame from IKEA
I never realized how picky or neurotic I am until I was trying to choose nightstands. It was….a process. These are from Target. The lamps are from Walmart.

Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s a definite improvement from what it was.

On to the kitchen!

Cheers!
